Tea Party and their guns

The Secret Service searched Occupy D.C. on Monday for a man suspected of firing bullets at the White House on Friday

let's ask the obvious question: "What if this was a Tea Party rally?"... the media has been very lackadaisical about the fact that bullets hit the White House... with arrests at the Occupy DC site including assault and drug possession, and now gun shots, when does the media call for the disbanding of Occupy DC?... when do they begin the disparaging remarks, like they did during the Town Hall meetings?... i'm looking for something like "clinging to their guns and drugs".

So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them... or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Occupying--Not Rioting--Wall Street

Regardless of traffic snarls, the police had no right to pepper spray, mace and violently throw to the ground peaceful demonstrators. Yes, the protestors did not have a permit to march, but the police had little grounds on which to get violent with them.

i agree that the police, in may instances, used excessive force... however, it is still illegal to march without a permit... civil disobedience is still a crime... disobeying a lawful order of a police officer is an arrestable offense... again, the police was excessive, but i would hardly call it "little grounds"... i don't believe any of the protestors calmly turned themselves in once the police notified them of being under arrest... this crowd is not filled with Ghandi's or King's.

what's half-a-trillion between friends?

holy $#!t... Maxine Waters (D-CA) was serious?... President Obama now wants to spend $470,000,000,000 to create jobs... after spending $666,000,000,000 last year to "create or save" around 2.4 million jobs (@ $278,000 per job)... i'm getting tired of saying it; "YOU CAN'T CONTINUE THIS!"

Titled the American Jobs Act, the proposal includes more than $250 billion in tax incentives for small businesses and employers, according to administration estimates. The rest of the money would be devoted to infrastructure spending, state aid, unemployment insurance, and neighborhood rehabilitation. The president will pay for the proposal by asking the congressional super committee tasked with finding $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction to offset the cost of the package in their proposal.

wait... "super committee"?... when did we create a new branch of government?... and did i miss the vote on who would be on this "super committee"?... apparently the democratic process we fought and died for isn't good enough anymore.

The tax components of the president's plan don't end there. The White House also wants a payroll tax holiday for businesses that add new workers or increase the wages of current employees; a fifty percent reduction of the tax rates businesses pay on the first $5 million in payroll; and a $4,000 tax credit for employers who hire long-term unemployed workers.

this is so stupid, i'll have to tackle it in parts.

1. the payroll tax holiday is just removing money from the federal tax rolls... employers aren't going to add workers for the limited tax benefit... they hire workers when they can profitably employ them... even minimum wage is around $15,000 a year, so no single tax incentive will cover that.
2. great... the payroll deduction not only takes funds away from the federal rolls (again), it takes matching funds away from my Social Security!... and i love that they have some magical ability to not put money into Social Security, yet somehow you don't lose any future benefits!... (and they say this isn't a Ponzi scheme!)
3. who will take $4,000 in graft to hire someone whom no one else wanted to hire before?... you want to hire the best and most qualified... they are already employed!... the only people who will take advantage of this are employers who aren't hiring them long-term to begin with!... they'll get their $4k and fire them when they're done... the most they'll get out of it is one year of minimum wage, then it's back on the breadline... but who cares about that?... that will be after the 2012 election.

i hear "libs" say Weiner shouldn't resign... that's BS... if it had been a conservative, the same people would lust for his blood!... several have resigned in shame over the years... but, somehow, if you're a liberal, you are not held to the same standard.

one of the arguments is, "conservatives are hypocrites, claiming they run on platforms of family values; while liberals don't claim this, so aren't held to that standard"... so, if i run on a platform of anti-baby-rape, and you don't, then it's by default okay for you to rape babies... that's not just illogical, it's plain stupid.

let's accept the "hypocrisy" argument... does it really make this right?... of course not... one thing that makes this so wrong is it calls to question the man's judgement... can we expect this person to make the right decisions in the legislature when he makes poor decisions in his personal life?

but, this isn't the worst of it... what are the implications of a Congressman making these poor decisions and a foreign entity finds out about it?... and what happens when that entity then blackmails the Congressman for certain favors or access?... for example, if John Edwards had won the Presidency a few years ago, only to have his extra-marital affair to be disovered by a Mexican drug cartel?... would a bill which increased Border Patrol funding ever get past his desk?... can you think of worse scenarios?... i know i can.

the point is simple... it doesn't matter what your political affiliation, your philosophy, or your platform... when you are given power as a representative of the people, what you do in your private life matters.

I rise today to talk about America's debt problem.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies.

And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.

Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America's priorities. Instead, interest payments are a significant tax on all Americans--a debt tax that Washington doesn't want to talk about. If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we would see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies.

Our debt also matters internationally. My friend, the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, likes to remind us that it took 42 Presidents 224 years to run up only $1 trillion of foreign-held debt.
